Trip Itinerary
We will start the tour with a meeting at the Kayak Shack at 20 Lethbridge Lane, Cartwright at 8:30. We will be 'suited up' and ready to boat by 9 am. The boat will go between Earl Island and Diver Island on its way to American Point. Its very likely you will get to see caribou, whales, seabirds and icebergs. From American Point we will skirt the shore line to Main Point. These Points were summer homes for fisher families in days gone by. We will then proceed to North River, Horse Chops, Trunmore Bay to Cape Porcupine where the Norse Sagas report landing to make a new keel for their boat as they made their way southward to Newfoundland. Our first stop will be at Sandy Point on the southern part of the Wonderstrand. We will visit the old graveyard at Sandy Point where the headstones speak of the devastating Spanish flu in the nearby old community. We will provide an opportunity to geo-quest as we explore the phenomenal sand dune that stretch from Sandy Point to the northern tip of the Porcupine Strand. If time permits we will drop into visit one of the summer homes on North River.
