Snack Cove - Archaeological dig site |
Sandy Point, the southernmost point of the 'Wonderstrand", is at the mouth of North River. Many years ago families of fishermen lived at North River, a settlement that was devastated by the Spanish flu if 1918. |
From this campsite you are looking southeast across the North River flats toward Huntington Island and Cartwright Run. |
Here's a shot of kayakers who are part of a five day kayak trip. They are entering the run and on to Snack Cove to explore the dig site there. |
This is a photo of Snack Cove at the eastern end of Huntington Island. There is ongoing archaeological exploration during the summer months at Snack Cove. Some of the artifacts found show occupation by Inuit and Innu peoples dating about 4000 years ago. |
